Q. What was it like walking on to the set of Glee for the first time?
A. Totally surreal. I’ve been a fan of the show since the beginning. Always feeling like I belonged in some almost-fantasy high school like that when I was younger. It felt like a dream coming true, as cheesy as that sounds. It was like a first date. I got butterflies, and my palms were sweaty. I kept looking around and thinking, “I know I am supposed to be here, but all I want to do is run home and hide under my blanket!”
Q. Have you always been a fan of Glee? Do you have a favorite performance or character?
A. Yes! Chris Colfer is definitely my favorite player on the show. Before growing into my own skin, I was much like his character, a bit of an outcast who longed for the spotlight. Being a little weird sucks when you feel like center stage is where you belong. Identifying with Kurtat the beginning of the show was what addicted me to it, I think. And seeing him gain a bit more of who he is through each episode is sort of an affirmation that I’m doing the right thing, you know? Also, Kristin Chenoweth is most definitely my favorite reoccurring role. Her voice is ridiculous. She’ll be in LA on New Years Eve, and I’m already looking high and low for tickets! My favorite performance is definitely her singing “Home” from The Wiz.
Q. Did you get to meet and talk to any of the show’s stars?
A. Chris Colfer was the only regular on the set the days that I filmed, but I spoke with him between takes a few times and he is such a great guy. Every single time he sang “Don’t Cry,” he cried on cue, and completely delivered. It was amazing. I’ve only filmed one episode thus far. The “Hey, Soul Sister” performance from tonight was filmed before I started attending Dalton High, so my appearances will most likely be minimum. However, I will be in further episodes that feature The Warblers. Future performances too.
Q. What was the experience like as a whole?
A. I felt comfortable there. At home, with the crew and all of the other actors. I had never done any camera work before, other than Idol, but Glee is so different. They’re creating lives for every single character, and it was lovely to be a part of the birthing process. I cannot wait until next time!
