I wanted to compose a topic to shed some thoughts into what I think is the most essential thing i got out of that anime looking from present day's perspective. The scene where this important quote occurred was where everyone went to a little island mansion and spent some time at the beach, where Yuki just reads books while most other people are either playing volleyball or swimming, generally doing something related to coming to the beach. This is where the main character questioned if Yuki wanted to do some swimming like everybody else but was ignored, and then Koizumi made a remark that was so natural that I didn't even catch it the first time I watched it. He said, everyone should spend their pastime the way they enjoy it. In other words, if she really likes reading books, just let her read, she's happy.
I always recognised the significance of this quote since I heard it, but unfortunately I'm hardly living up to it most of my life. from about the time when i was in high school, i spent most of my free time alone watching anime or playing computer games. But i wasn't really happy at that time because a lot of people were telling me to do other things. Hey it's friday night you should go out, hey get a gf man, hey spend more time with your family and friends, hey do some travelling have some fun get a life. Time and time again I would be persuaded into doing these things, feeling they would make me more satisfied but they turned out to be a waste of time that i should have avoided. And I would feel guilty. I would feel annoyed that I have not led a life as useful as others.
I was bothered by these things because i let them bother me. There's no way you're going to have fun in your life if you're being ingenuine to yourself. There's a lot of people who would compare me with others, and who wanted me to live a similar lifestyle as others. But in the end it all needs to come down to you being genuine to yourself, if you don't like doing something, **** it, it won't make you happy. There's a lot of people saying, doing this is more fun, doing that is more fun, and that is what you should be doing. Nah, i say just **** it, everyone should spend their pastime the way they enjoy it. There's no point doing something you don't give a shit about, and pretending it made you feel happy and it made other people happy. There are people who like clubbing more so than they enjoy play computer games, because everyone is, in the end, different, and I respect that. But that is not to say you can't enjoy playing computer games, I personally have a great time playing computer games, but when I was in high school, I wasn't all that happy because while it was fun to play computer games, I was bothered by the thoughts that I should now be socialising with friends or something like that, something that people tell me to do. But honestly, I think it's better to not pay attention to those opinions. I still get bothered by these things nowadays, though a lot less then before, and when i ignore them, I reckon I'm living a pretty great life, doing the things I want to do, and not doing the things I don't want to do. I'm trying to ignore more of them, but I'm also very mindful in taking in constructive criticism so that I can be more genuine to myself.
People say things along the lines of, yeah we get our dicks sucked everyday, we get wet pussies everyday, that is what a life is, that is the only accepted style of life. Seriously? No doubt that there are people who enjoy or are looking forward to this sort of life, I'm not here to criticise it, but at the end of the day, there's other different lifestyles, and different things that different people enjoy, and if it makes them happy, i say that's good enough. Whoever thinks that everyone is only suited to a uniformed style of life, and get people doing things they don't want to be doing, is sad.
That's just my humble opinion on this matter, I think that was probably some of the most important things i learnt over the past few years, hope it makes sense to some of you.
