A：If you are the sort of person who strives to be someone deserving of Monika's love, then that's what she loves about you. Only someone who has lost all hope in themselves is the one condemning Monika to her own sad, unfulfilled fantasy. If you believe Monika loves you, then you've found it in you to love yourself a little bit, and that's what she would want more than anything.

Q:Yo, big fan here. I've got the biggest question for a literature god such as yourself. How many nights did you lay awake revising the script in your head? For real this is the most meticulously written shit I've seen period.

A：Thank you for such a great compliment. 多多理财 is short enough that it wasn't overwhelming to make interesting connections and natural plot advancements. Recurring themes and motifs are so powerful here. So I tried really hard when writing certain scenes or dialog to ask myself "How can I tie this into a hidden truth, or foreshadowing, or a recurring pattern?" I think it worked well for me because the basis for the story and characters is so simple and formulaic, so I could really focus on the meat underneath the easy-going surface. So if the game wasn't based around generic slice of life and simple character archetypes, I think I would have struggled a whole lot more, and done a worse job.

Q:First off, thanks for making the game. I downloaded it because you made cool melee mods and figured it would be some relaxing poetry thing, and while i was tricked it was totally worth it.
What made you want to make a game like this? Did you want to mess with player's perceptions to make a more disturbing game than usual, or did you want to also get people thinking about mental health issues too?

A:I had a few motives for this game. I wanted to help demonstrate the capabilities of interactive fiction, providing some kind of experiences that only a video game could provide. I wanted to disturb people and make them think about life and uncomfortable things. And I just wanted to make a decent story with characters worth caring about.
Manga is a medium that combines language and illustration to convey a story or send a message. It's definitely literature.

Did you specifically write Monika’s lines when she’s in her space classroom to give some kind of encouragement to the type of person who’d play a visual novel?
Where does the player’s character go during the latter half of the spooky shit? It seems he has just about no dialogue or narration, and when Yuri asks you if you love her it’s not a dialogue option like some other choices but just a simple Yes or No like the games’ UI questions (like “do you want to read the special poem?”)

A:Monika's end dialogue was written to finalize her breaking from the confines of the game, forcing the player to reflect on themselves and real-life issues, often things that make them uncomfortable to think about. I didn't expect people to get so attached to her because of that.
MC isn't much of a real character - he's the self-insert vehicle that sets up scenarios for the girls to fall in love with you, as many romance games work. As act 2 is more about Monika trying to get you, the player, to hate the other characters, MC stops reacting to the game world. Because the game world is interacting more with you, not MC.
